Devices

Your phone decides. We tell you what it gets.

No fine print, no “supported devices” list that quietly means flagships. Here is exactly what runs on what.

Why this page exists

A speech model needs room to think.

Recognising speech on a phone means holding a model in memory while it runs. A phone that can't spare that memory doesn't get a crash and it doesn't get a spinner — it gets a smaller model, and we tell you which one. Betterflo measures your phone once and picks the best it can actually run.

Betterflo picks your tier from what your phone can sustain — RAM and processor together, not RAM alone — never from its Android version. There's no cutoff year for tier assignment, though Play still won't offer the app below its minimum supported version.

The part most sites leave out

On the smallest phones, you get English — and only English.

That's the honest version, and it's a decision rather than a gap.

At 0.5 GB there is no Indic speech model that fits and still works. We tried the obvious shortcut — a general multilingual model covering every language at once. On real Hindi speech it got the typical sentence entirely wrong, and often came back in the wrong alphabet altogether.

We could have shipped it anyway. A language shelf with ten more rows on it looks better than one. But a row that returns nonsense isn't a language you have — it's a language you've been promised. So we took those rows off the shelf on the smallest phones, and left English, which genuinely works there.

Fewer working languages and a shelf you can trust. That's the trade, and we'd make it again.

We keep looking. The sweep on 2026-08-10 found no Indic speech model small enough for this tier that we'd be willing to ship — not one we've rejected on taste, one that doesn't exist yet. The day it does, it lands here.

Betterflo tells you which languages your phone can run before you download anything, on the language screen during setup. Nothing is hidden behind a purchase, and nothing downloads until you pick it.
